ABOUT YOGA
Yoga is an ancient mind and body practice dating back thousands of years. Originally from India it is today practiced by millions of people world wide. The literal translation of ‘Yoga’ from Sanskrit is ‘union’ and it is the union of the mind and the body with the breath. Yoga combines physical postures, breathing techniques and meditation and relaxation to promote mental and physical wellbeing.
Bringing together physical and mental disciplines to achieve a peaceful body and mind, it helps to manage stress and anxiety and aids relaxation. It also helps to increase flexibility, muscle strength, bone density and body tone. A regular yoga practice can help with sleep problems, lift feelings of depression, boost the immune system, raise self-esteem and generally improve feelings of wellbeing.
"I started Sian's classes almost 2 years ago and haven't looked back. I can honestly say that at 55 I'm the fittest I've ever been, and the calmest, despite 18 months of turmoil and personal upsets.
Sian's willingness to share her wealth of yoga knowledge and her encouragement in the postures have been an inspiration to me, and I would highly recommend her classes to anybody looking to increase both their flexibility and positivity."
"I'd never tried yoga before Sian's classes. I didn't think it was aimed at someone like me. But it's been a revelation: the sessions are energising, she's a really empathetic teacher and I'm in better shape now than I have been for years.
Highly recommended - whether you're a novice or more advanced in your yoga practice."
"Sian’s yoga class has really helped me feel physically and mentally healthier. The atmosphere is relaxed and friendly and I always feel so great after the class.
I definitely have benefited from improved flexibility and strength and breathing techniques learned are invaluable for yoga and for life generally."
ABOUT ME
My love of yoga started in 2004 when I attended my first Ashtanga class.
I practiced regularly for a number of years, until the demands of juggling a legal career and a family resulted in a break from regular yoga classes.
When I returned to the mat the beneficial impact on my physical and mental health were inescapable. During the time without a regular yoga practice I had become both stiff and tense without really realising it.
Over time I’ve found that yoga has helped me to not only feel stronger and healthier but to be happier, to have a more positive outlook on life and to generally feel better in my own skin. I believe yoga provides an invaluable toolkit to help deal with the ups and downs that life throws in our path and helps achieve a general sense of wellbeing.
I trained as a yoga teacher because I want yoga to always be in my life and I want to pass on its benefits to others. I have completed my 250 hour teacher training certificate through Yogarise under the guidance of Erin Pritchard. I am registered with the Yoga Alliance. I have also completed my 60 hours training with TeenYoga and am passionate about getting young people involved in yoga. I teach Vinyasa flow.
I believe that yoga is for everyone and that everyone can benefit from it. I am passionate about sharing both the physical and mental benefits of the practice. My classes are challenging but accessible.

TUESDAY MORNINGS
08.00 - 09.00
FRIDAY MORNINGS
08.00 - 09.00
I teach Vinyasa flow, a style of yoga characterised by stringing postures together in a flowing sequence so you move from one to another with your breath. Set to music this hour long class of poses with deep focus on the breath and relaxation at the end, will leave you energised but relaxed.
I offer an inclusive, non-judgemental class that is both accessible and challenging with variations and modifications offered to ensure each student practices in accordance with their own individual needs. Students are offered a nurturing environment in which to move the body and quieten the mind, drawing on yoga philosophy to help guide the practice both on and off the mat.
St John’s Church, Deptford, London SE8 4EA
Upstairs hall, opposite Lewisham college on Lewisham Way
What to bring:
Please bring your own mat and any blocks and belts you require. We are unable to supply equipment as a result of the COVID-19 situation,
What to wear:
Wear something comfortable that allows you to move with freedom. Leggings, shorts or jogging bottom are perfect. Layers are a good idea so that you can put something warm on during Savasana (relaxation) at the end.
If you’re a beginner:
Classes are suitable for beginners with variations and modifications given to ensure that each individual works in accordance with their own needs and own individual body. Everyone has varying levels of fitness, flexibility and strength and everyone can feel different from one day to another. You are invited to listen to your body and work with where your body is on any particular day and to work with what is right for you.
It’s a really lovely way to give yourself a bit of time for yourself. You will leave the class feeling both energised and relaxed and hopefully pleased that you tried something new.
Come give it a try.

PRIVATE CLASSES & WORK-BASED YOGA
Private classes can be tailor made to individual needs and can be a great way to return to practice after periods of illness or injury or if you are looking to deepen your practice or focus on something in particular within your current practice.
Work based yoga classes can be a great way of reducing work place stresses, to help develop positive attitudes in work and can help encourage better working relationships within teams.
